About the Federal Expungement Initiative

Jeff Grant, Co-Founder of the White Collar Support Group, Professor Mark Osler of the University of St. Thomas School of Law, Professor Rachel Barkow of the New York University School of Law and Professor Douglas Berman of the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law are proud to announce the launch of the Federal Expungement Initiative.

Hundreds of thousands of people with federal criminal records are held back, years after they’ve served their time. We’re building a national coalition of legal scholars, policy experts, and justice advocates interested in fighting for a federal solution that restores hope, dignity, and opportunity for those who have paid their debt to society.

Together, we are committed to creating a clear federal process for criminal record expungement so those who have taken responsibility and paid their debt to society may have a real chance at restoration, dignity, and a future.

The co-founders

Four people launched the Initiative.

  • Jeffrey Grant is an attorney and the founder of the White Collar Support Group, and the managing attorney of GrantLaw PLLC.
  • Mark Osler is a professor at the University of St. Thomas School of Law in Minnesota, a former federal prosecutor, and a co-founder of the Clemency Resource Center.
  • Rachel Barkow is the Charles Seligson Professor of Law at New York University and served on the U.S. Sentencing Commission.
  • Douglas Berman holds the Newton D. Baker-Baker & Hostetler Chair in Law at the Moritz College of Law at Ohio State University and writes the Sentencing Law and Policy blog.

They are joined by advisors, a research counsel, a paralegal, and a coalition of advocates. Meet everyone involved.

The White Collar Support Group

Co-founder Jeff Grant founded the White Collar Support Group (WCSG), the peer support network at prisonist.org, which hosts the Tuesday Night Speaker Series. Several members of the coalition have spoken in that series, and their recordings are linked from their pages. Upcoming events, including the White Collar Conference, are on the events page.
